Best AA battery to buy?  Lithium vs Zinc-carbon vs Li-on vs NiMh vs Nizn

An AA battery—also called a double A or Mignon (French for "dainty") battery is a standard size single cell cylindrical dry battery. The IEC (international electrotechnical commission )system calls it size R6, and ANSI(American National Standard Institute) calls it size 15. Historically, it is known as HP7 in the United Kingdom.AA batteries are common in portable electronic devices. An AA battery is composed of a single electrochemical cell that may be either a primary battery (disposable) or a rechargeable battery. The exact terminal voltage and capacity of an AA size battery depends on cell chemistry.

Introduced in 1907, the AA battery size was standardised by the ANSI in 1947, but it had been used in flashlights and electrical novelties for some time before formal standardisation. ANSI and IEC Battery nomenclature gives several designations for cells in this size, depending on cell features and chemistry.

There are mainly two types of batteries

1-Primary batteries

2-Rechargeable batteries

 Primary (non-rechargeable) batteries

  1. zinc-carbon (dry cell)AA batteries stores around 400-900 milliamp-hour and are sold for "general purposes"
  2. zinc-chloride batteries stores around 1000-1500 mAH often sold as "heavy-duty" or "super heavy duty"
  3. Alkaline batteries stores around 1700 - 3000 mAH cost more than zinc-chloride, but last proportionally longer
  4. Non-rechargeable lithium batteries are for  hungry power devices such as digital cameras

 Rechargeable batteries

  1. Rechargeable batteries in the  size are available in NiCd(Nickel-cadmium) capacity of 600-1000 mAh roughly and
  2. NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) capacity of 1300 -3500 mAh and
  3. lithium-ion has a nominal voltage of 3.6 volts, they are referred as 14500 Li-ion batteries
  4. NiZn(Nickel-zinc)are also available but not widely used.

Low drain batteries -  The low drain batteries discharge around 200 mAh and are generally used in toys and similar products

High drain batteries – The high drain batteries discharge around 1000 mAh are used in power-hungry devices such as digital cameras and similar products

Lithium batteries are great.

The Energizer Ultimate Lithium performed very well, achieving about 3000 mAh each with at all cut-off voltages. These batteries would be a good choice in an application which needs to last a very long time and where changing batteries is difficult or inconvenient - for example, a baby monitor or a smoke alarm. A notable effect is that the lithium cells give out most of their energy around the 1.25V~1.35V range. This could be useful for certain digital cameras with limited voltage spans except at 1.35V.

Duracell from Poundland (Duracell Standard) are genuine Duracell batteries sold in twin packs but are definitely of lesser performance compared to other Duracell batteries. Duracell SIMPLY, Duracell's budget brand (£2.99 for 4 cells), performed similarly to standard Duracell, so they are likely based on similar technology.

Duracell PROCELL and Energizer Industrial are good batteries for the price

The difference between Duracell Plus Power and Duracell Ultra Power is more or less negligible. It's only at very high cut-off voltages that the Ultra Power begins to show better performance (giving an overall slightly higher MWh result), but it still doesn't account for the significant cost increase. The inbuilt battery tester on the Ultra Power is useful – but for nearly the same price of the whole pack,

HOW TO BUY AA BATTERIES ONLINE.

There are many sellers on eBay / Amazon & Google who sells aa battery. But you have to be very careful in buying watch battery as most of the sellers are not authorised reseller or they dump cheap replica or fake batteries. They also many times sell outdated battery which is not good for health. We at TradeNRG always have brand new stock of the batteries and all of our batteries has the very long expiry date. We sell in 1 pack, 2 Pack, 3 Pack, 4 Pack, 5 Pack, 8 Pack and 10 Pack AA batteries and if you are looking for larger qty then feel free to get in touch.

CONCLUSION

Zinc  batteries  are the cheapest but have the poor performance  and don't represent  the value of money

Alkaline batteries still represent excellent value for money even at higher cut-off voltages of 1.3V,

The latest range of non-rechargeable batteries from Panasonic, deliver higher performance than standard Zinc-Carbon batteries. Ideal for medium to high drain applications, where continuous reliable energy is required, such as in scales, distance meters & flashlights batteries.

Alkaline, rechargeable battery, Alkaline battery, power supply, portable power, lithium battery, car power, lightning, radio battery, clock battery, scale battery, Tradenrg stocks a wide range of batteries from leading brands. From AA batteries to industrial 12V rechargeable batteries, battery chargers and battery holders, you can find what you need for anything from mobile phones to earphones.
